The farm

The Thalerhof lies at 1,100 metres on the sunny side of the Puster Valley and looks back on a long history. In front of the house you can enjoy the panoramic view over the village of Nasen to the Dolomites – with a sunbathing lawn and a children’s playground.

Many animals live on our farm: dairy cows and calves, pigs, chickens, dwarf goats, rabbits and cats that love to be stroked. That is why we have fresh milk and eggs every morning and, depending on the season, vegetables from our own garden. A fresh bread roll service is available all year round.

Sustainability matters to us: our energy comes from biomass from our own forest, used in our wood-chip heating system.

We are happy to show you around the farm. From 5 pm you are welcome to join us for feeding and milking.

Home-grown produce

Vegetables

Depending on the season, our garden grows lettuce, carrots, courgettes, beans, onions, cauliflower, cabbage and red cabbage. The garden is cultivated organically, without artificial fertilisers or additives. Magdalena looks after the plants and flowers every day.

Milk

Karl milks the cows every morning and evening. The milk goes into a cooling tank and is then taken to the milk collection point in Nasen.

Eggs

Every day grandma Maria feeds the chickens and collects the eggs from their nests. Whether for breakfast, cakes or traditional Tyrolean dishes – fresh eggs are simply part of farm life.

Farm history

The Thalerhof was rebuilt in 1847 and farmed until 1851 by Johann Preindl and his wife Maria, née Seir. Josef Winkler then lived on the farm and handed it over to his daughter’s family in 1887. On 30 December 1907 Johann Leiter bought the farm, but leased it out in 1923 when he moved with his wife Barbara Lechner and their children Urban and Mathilde to the larger, leased Hutterhof farm in Ried.

On 22 January 1932 his son Urban Leiter took over the Thalerhof with his wife Anna Haidacher; they had nine children (photo). Their eldest son Albin Leiter received the farm in 1974 and ran it with his wife Maria Messner until 1997, when his eldest son Karl Leiter took over.

The house, built in 1992, was renovated in 2008, adding an apartment for the parents and two holiday apartments. Today the farm is run by Karl and M. Magdalena Oberleiter together with their four children Daniel, Christian, Hannes and Katja.
